What to Expect During Your SPRAVATO® Treatment Video

What does Spravato Treatment entail?

Spravato Treatments are done in office under the supervision of the licensed clinician who is certified by the FDA's Spravato REMS program. Only healthcare providers with this designation may provide Spravato treatments. LBH is now certified at all three locations to provide Spravato Treatments.

When you come into our office for your treatment, we will teach how to properly administer the nasal spray and observe you as you administer each dose. Our staff will then monitor you under the supervision of one of our health care providers for at least two hours to monitor for side effects. After two hours, our provider will reassess you to ensure you are safe to leave.  You will need someone to drive you home as Spravato can cause sedation after each dose, which usually lasts no more than 24 hours.

How often are the treatments?

With Spravato, we followed an FDA approved treatment regimen which has been shown to be the most effective dosing regimen. This regimen is broken down into 3 phases- Induction, Optimization, and Maintenance.

  1. Induction: Lasts 4 weeks and requires 2 dose per week for a total of 8 doses.

  2. Optimization: Lasts 4 weeks and requires 1 dose per week for a total of 4 more doses.

  3. Maintenance: For most patients, this will include 1 dose every other week ongoing. However, this may vary on case by case basis depending on how  each patient responds to Spravato.

As previously mentioned, all treatments last at least 2 hours to allow for the appropriate monitoring after dose administration.

What happens during the 2-hour monitoring period for each treatment session?

Our Spravato patients will enjoy nice comfy reclining chairs and a calming atmosphere in a semi-private room. Some patients choose to talk amongst one another, while others may prefer to nap. You may also bring your headphones to listen to some music or catch up on your favorite podcast or television show. The only thing that we ask is that everyone is respectful of one another. Our staff will periodically check in on you to see how you are feeling and to monitor your blood pressure, which is a standard and required procedure throughout each treatment session. Our overall priority is to make everyone as comfortable as we possibility can, while providing the most access to Spravato to our local community.

Who is Spravato for?

Spravato is indicated for treatment resistant depression. Patients who have failed at least two antidepressant medication trials may be candidates for Spravato treatment. Patients with bipolar disorder, psychotic disorders or certain heart problems may not be able to undergo Spravato treatments.
